Introduction to the poem
Introduction to the poem : Swaini Vivekanand says that we must be quite aware of our aim of life. The human life is full of sufferings and difficulties, but we have to face them like a man. He asks us to have faith in almighty, the divine soul He expresses his views on the philosophy of ‘Adwaltvad.
कविता का परिचय-स्वामी विवेकानन्द कहते हैं कि हमें अपने जीवन के ध्येय से पूरी तरह परिचित होना चाहिए । मनुष्य का जीवन दु:खों और कठिनाइयों से भरा हुआ है लेकिन हमें उनका मुकाबला एक मनुष्य की भाँति करना चाहिए। वे कहते हैं कि हमें परमात्मा जो सर्वशक्तिमान है-में विश्वास करना चाहिए। वे अपने दर्शन ‘अद्वैतवाद’ पर अपने विचार प्रकट करते हैं। .

Q. Explain with reference to the context of the following stanzas:
- The wounded snake its hood unfurls,
The flame stirred up doth blaze,
The desert air resounds the calls
Of heart-struck Lion’s rage:
Word meanings : wounded (वून्डेड) घायल, snake (स्नेक) = सर्प, hood (ड) = फण, unfuri (अनफल) = फैलाना, flame (फ्लेम) = आग, stirred up (स्टर्ड अप) = उकसाई जाती है. blaze (प्लेज) – तेजी से जलमा, desert (डेजर्ट) – रेगिस्तान, resound (रिसाउण्ड) = प्रतिध्वनि करना, calls (कॉल्स) = आवाज, heart-struck (हार्ट-स्ट्रक) = गोली या तीर से घायल, rage (रेज) = क्रोधा

Context : According to the poet, man can cultivate the best qualities in him he is enfaced with difficulties.
Explanation: The poet says that a snake shows its hood only when it is hurt. If We blow up a flame, it will burn brightly. When the lion is struck by the hunter’s bullet or arrow, its angry roars can be heard in the whole forest. The desert air resounds his roar everywhere in the forest.
व्याख्या-कवि कहता है सर्प अपना फण तभी फैलाता है जब उसे चोट पहुँचाई जाती है। यदि हम आग में फूंक मारेंगे तो वह और तेज जलेगी। यदि शेर को गोली या तीर से निशाना बनाया जाए तो वह जगल को दहला देने वाली दहाड़ लगाएगा। रेगिस्तान की हवा जंगल में हर जगह प्रतिध्वनित होती है।
- The cloudputs forth its deluge strength
When lightning cleaves its breast,
When the soul is stirred to its inmost depth
Great ones unfold their best !
Word meanings : cloud (क्लाउड) = बादल, puts forth (पुट्स फोर्थ) = उड़ेल देता है, deluge (डैल्यूज) = तेज वर्षा होना, strength (स्ट्रैनथ) = शक्ति, cleave (क्लीद)- तोड़ना, breast (बैस्ट) -दिल, soul (सोल) = आत्मा, stirred (स्टर्ड) = चलना. inmost depth (इनमोस्ट डेप्य), गहरा अंश, great ones (ग्रेट ‘वन्स) = महान आत्मा, unfold (अनफोल्ड) = प्रदर्शित करना, their best (देयर बैस्ट) = अच्छे चारित्रिक गुण ।

Explanation: When the lightning breaks the heart of the clouds in the sky, the clouds start raining heavily and cause a great flood all around. It pours and pours in torments. In the same way. The great people whose hearts, if are hurt to the inmost depth, have to show their best skills.
व्याख्या-जब आकाशी बिजली बादलों के हृदय को चीर देती है, तो बावल तेजी से वर्षा करने लगते हैं और सब ओर प्रलय ला देते हैं। मूसलाधार वर्षा होने लगती है। उसी प्रकार, महान आत्माएँ जब वय की गहराई तक घायल हो जाती हैं, तो वे अपनी सर्वोत्तम कुशलता का प्रवर्शन करने लगती है।
- Let eyes grow dim and heart grow faint .
And friendship fail and love betray.
Let fate its hundred horrors send
And clotted darkness block the way-
Word meanings: grow dim (यो डिम) = धुंधली हो जाना, grow faint (ग्रो फेन्ट कमजोर हो जाना, friendship (फ्रेन्डशिप) = मित्रता, fail (फेल) = समाप्त होना, love (लव) – प्यार या प्रेयसी, betray (बिद्रे)- धोखा देना, fate (फेट)- भाग्य, hundred horrors send (हन्फ्रेड हॉरर्स सैन्छ)- अनेक कठिनाइयाँ पैदा करना, clotted darkness (क्लॉटेड आर्कनैस)- पूर्ण अन्धकार, block the way(ब्लॉकद)-विकास रोकना।

Context: The poet says that man must have faith in God, then he would not be afraid of any pain, suffering or trouble in the world.
Explanation: The poet says that a man can suffer from weakness of eyesight and his heart can also become weak. His friends may not continue the friendship. His lover or the beloved may betray him or prove to be unfaithful. Terrible sufferings may disturb his tate, complete darkness may cause obstacle in his path, nature may cause destruction, but a true man should never stop his journey of progress.
व्याख्या -कवि कहता है कि मनुष्य आँखों की रोशनी कम होने का पीड़ित हो सकता है और उसका विल भी कमजोर हो सकता है। उसके मित्र भी मित्रता त्याग सकते हैं। उसकी प्रेयसी उसे धोखा दे सकती है या गैर वफादार हो सकती है। भयंकर परेशानियाँ उसके भाग्य को विचलित कर सकती हैं. पूर्ण अन्धकार उसके मार्ग में बाधा डाल सकता है, प्रकृति विनाश ला सकती है. लेकिन एक पूर्ण व्यक्ति को अपनी उन्नति की यात्रा कभी नहीं रोकनी चाहिए।

To crush you out-still know my soul,
You are divine, march on and on
Nor right nor left, but to the goal !
- Word meanings : one angry frown (वन ऐन्ग्री फ्रॉन) = क्रोध साक्षात रूप ले सकता है. crush (क़श) = कुचलना, still know my soul (स्टिल नो माई सोल) = अपनी आत्मा को पहचाना, divine (डिवायन) – ईश्वरीय, goal (गोल) = लक्ष्य।

Context: In these lines the poet expresses the nature of anger and the utility of soul.
Explanation: The poet says that nature is so powerful that it can change ever the path of life and it may obstruct the progress of human being. According to the pont man is divine. So he must go on ahead. He should not see here and there but must have a keen sight at his aim. The aim of life is in divinity.
व्याख्या-कवि कहता है कि प्रकृति इतनी शक्तिशाली है कि यह जीवन के मार्ग को भी बदल सकता है तथा मानव के जीवन की उन्नति को अवरुद्ध कर सकता है। कवि के अनुसार मनुष्य ईश्वरीय है। अतः उसे आगे बढ़ते रहना चाहिए । उसे इधर-उधर दृष्टिपात नहीं करना चाहिए बल्कि उसे अपने लक्ष्य पर पैनी नजर रखनी चाहिए। जीवन का उद्देश्य ईश्वरत्व में है।
Central Idea of the Poem
The central idea of the poem ‘The Song of The Free’ composed by Swain Vivekanand is that human life is surrounded with so many sufferings and difficul- ties. But we should not be disheartened. We have a definite aim of life and we should know it. In spite of all bad situations, we should march on to achieve it.
हिन्दी अनवाद-स्वामी विवेकानन्द द्वारा रचित ‘The Song of The Free’ कविता का केन्द्रीय कि मानव जीवन अनेक कष्टो और कठिनाइयों से घिरा हुआ है। लेकिन हमें निराश नहीं होना मादिशाहमारे जीवन का एक निश्चित लक्ष्य है और उसे हमें जानना चाहिए। सभी विपरीत परिस्थितियों के बावजूद हमें उस लक्ष्य को प्राप्त करने के लिए आगे बढ़ते रहना चाहिए। .
