The writer took a boat for sailing on the river Chobe. The river was full of dangerous hippos. They were so powerful that they could break even the boats. The best way to save from the hippos was to dive to the bottom and to stay there for a few seconds.

The elderly male hippos driven out of their herd became dangerous. The hippos could be seen when they put their head out of water to breathe.
The number of crocodiles
The number of crocodiles in the river was very large. They carried off human children, men and cows. The crocodiles usually came up the river and sunned themselves on sand banks.
Fish is the chief food
Fish is the chief food of the crocodiles. The crocodiles rush with great speed under water to catch their prey. The crocodiles avoid light and fish chiefly by night.
